A Nascent Experiment
I have been looking for a new outlet for my creative energy, so I decided to start documenting some of my thoughts and doings. I have journaled on and off throughout different chapters of my life (unfortunately, this has been more off than on) as the congested cacophony of work and motherhood often hijacked the doing. Starting this blog, I hope it is an opportunity to hold myself accountable.
My objective is really just to find a way to ground myself and force moments of pause and appreciation for all the goodness that surrounds us. We, as humans, have a negativity bias, which for our prehistoric selves offered an important defense mechanism against lurking dangers. This, and the following high-alert, flight response, served us well in an environment built for survival. However, in our modern existence, although these dangers have been largely removed, we still find ourselves fueled by inflamed, irrational responses to far more subdued stimuli, including the person going too slowly in the checkout lane or the car that cuts us off on the interstate.
I am hoping my time spent on this page will serve as a reset, an opportunity to take in the stillness, swim in the quiet solitude and beauty of nature, make something with my hands, break bread with my family and friends, and explore all that can be extracted when we choose to find space for the happenings that call for celebration and acknowledgment.
Journeys are often best ventured in step with fellow sojourners, so anyone who happened upon this trail would be a welcome companion.
